May your love and light shine brightly in our hearts O LORD…
Merry Christmas Everyone!
We absolutely LOVE this time of year! The fireplace is on, music is playing, the tree is up and our home and yard twinkles with lights. Our Christmas letter is being written between family visits, seasonal plays, delicious dinners, church and school programs… and Amazon shopping while sipping hot cocoa! We are SOOOO incredibly blessed…
We brought in 2018 with a mile walk at midnight through the neighborhood… strolling and singing blasts from the past songs with son Todd and family… and daughter Jani and family. A few days later, daughter Denise and family headed back to Florida to run the 25th Walt Disney World Marathon while Nana played with Gracie, their dog, at home. Nise does the “Goofy” series: four days of running a 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon. Granddaughter Karma was in a school play and grandson Leo began basketball games at the Y. Nana also flew to Spokane to watch grandkids Parker and Trista participate in Hot Shot competition and basketball tournaments. I loved it… it was an exciting month of some really fun stuff!
Our February was filled with more basketball, more soccer, and Mamma Mia at the Fifth Avenue with grandson Byron. Big news was we traded our green Miata in for a newer used red hot VW convertible. We are definitely now a cool geriatric couple! Weekends were filled with Jer watching the New England Patriots prepare for the Super Bowl… but sadly, they lost that one to the Eagles. Needless to say, we didn’t speak of the game around here for a while after that!
March brought some fun theater productions at the Seattle Taproot Theatre and the Tacoma Musical Playhouse when Carole’s old friend, Doug, played Charlie as an adult in the Young at Heart Players production of “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown”. Daughter Denise and Eric took us to Tim Hawks live in Seattle and we laughed till we cried! We also enjoyed an amazing walkthrough presentation of Journey to the Cross at the Auburn Adventist Academy. Jer and his friend, Frank, finished the month with a road trip to Portland for a Boston Celtics/Portland Trail Blazers basketball game.
We celebrated Easter with a sunrise service, egg hunt, delicious brunch and Whack-a-Peep with some fun competition. Later in April, we joined granddaughter Karma for a Grandparents luncheon at her school in Port Orchard and also enjoyed seeing grandson Malakai in his school play, Beauty and the Beast.
May brought more grandkid’s athletic events with grandson Parker playing Best in the West basketball in Yakima and an honor lacrosse game at Starfire Sports in Tukwila. We also enjoyed another Taproot Theatre presentation with daughter Denise and Eric. It is so nice to have these Seattle evening events and not have to drive. Jer decided to register for the Santa Rosa Half Ironman in July 2019 and was trying not to over train early. He began a 5 month diet and exercise regimen biking with Denise on Saturdays and with neighbors on Tuesday and Thursdays.
June came and so did the fun events of summer! Trips to CA to see grandson Kai’s 8th grade graduation ceremony at Live Oak Waldorf School in Meadow Vista was amazing as was our end of school family weekend in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Red Sox/Mariners games at Safeco field with friends is always a treat, especially this year, as the Sox became World Champions for the fourth time in this century!
July and August was filled with friends and family, more soccer games and Vacation Bible School. We had a great visit when son Mike brought his clubs and played golf for a few days.
In September, Carole flew to Spokane for a delightful weekend of play and relaxation with her old friend Patty… staying at the Davenport Hotel, spending an afternoon at the Spa, and thoroughly enjoying every moment! What a treat it was… and Todd and Kristen were even able to join us for a couple hours! Soccer and flag football began again with grandkiddos Leo, Kiana, and Malakai. Korban and Kiana began attending Veritas Classical Christian School and Papa became their personal “Uber” driver specializing in civics/government and geography study while driving to and from school! They really like the small class size and individual instruction. Unfortunately, Jer fell at the end of the month and fractured 5 ribs so his training was put on hold for a while.
We attended a special Grandparents Day program at Kiana and Korban’s school in October… and the weekends were filled with more of grandson Leo’s soccer games. He loves the sport, makes a great kick and brings a lot of smiles when he’s playing goalie!
In November, granddaughter Trista began playing JV and Varsity Girls’ Basketball at Ferris High School in Spokane… we attended an honoring Veterans Day program at grandson Malakai’s school… and Thanksgiving was celebrated at the Kliskey’s where three year old great-grandson Remi loved playing with all his cousins. It was a wonderful day of recognizing and appreciating our many, many blessings!
December brought daughter Lynn and granddaughter Zoe to Seattle when Jer discovered that Zoe was very fond of the Broadway musical “Annie”. We had a great visit with them and the 5th Avenue production of Annie was wonderful.
We are both studying the Old Testament, Promised Land in Bible Study Fellowship this year and Jer continues playing bridge on Fridays. He is also involved in a second Bible study at our church. It has taken him some time to heal but he’s now 100% sound and starting to exercise again. The kiddos keep both of us busy before and after school weekdays and Bunco remains Carole’s once a month night out.
Merry Christmas and Happy 2019! You’ll find some of our year 2018 photos at Year 2018 In Pictures. We love you and are very thankful you’re a part of our lives. We pray God’s love and light shines brightly in our hearts and that all may see His glory as we are reminded of the holiness of the season and the true meaning of Christmas. May your New Year overflow with the renewed hope, reassuring faith, immense joy and amazing peace that comes with knowing JESUS.
With Love and Warm Hugs,
