Hi Everyone… this is the repeated chorus of a wonderful song by Matt Redman called “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)”. It reminds us of the Lord’s love, heart and goodness… things I know that I sometimes take for granted… but, this year, its lyrics have repeated over and over again in my heart and mind. It is with this continued thought that I begin and write our 2012 Christmas letter…
The year 2012 brought us two MAJOR changes! We are no longer a three-generational home. In May, daughter Jani and Brian, Kaden, Byron, Karma and their 2 cats moved into their own home in Port Orchard, WA. They also opened their own business in Bremerton called B-Plus Retro & More… a business selling new and used video games and systems. They are very excited about this new chapter in their lives and we wish them the very best! That same month, Carole’s mother, Helen, suffered a stroke. The next 6 months have been spent with her in the hospital, in a skilled nursing facility, in rehab, and now in assisted living. She has shown remarkable improvement and hopes to return to her home in Olympia in the spring. Meanwhile, Jerry and I have just been trying to discover what our new "normal" is.
We do have some fun activities we want to share though. In January, we were pleased to attend one of granddaughter Kayla’s school wrestling meets in Fife. She enjoys the sport and we enjoyed watching her!
In March Jer made it to daughter Lynn and Ken’s in Santa Cruz, CA for a week. Playing with Zoe and Kai is always a fun time for Grandpa.
April brought a delightful week when daughter Lynn, Kai and Zoe combined a business trip with an early birthday celebration for Jer at the Fairmont Hotel in Seattle. Needless to say… Grandpa enjoyed every minute of it! We also had a fun day when we flew to Spokane for grandson Parker’s 5th Birthday party.
Our joy in May was the completed adoption of Leo Caleb into daughter Denise and Eric’s family. Praise God, Leo is now an official Kliskey! He joins siblings Kiana, Korban, Malakai and foster sister, Tanya. Sitting on Wednesday and Thursday keeps Nana on her toes but she absolutely loves it!
June brought another birthday for Jer… as did July for Carole. We shall not speak any more of it except to say they were both nice evenings out and the food was delicious!
July brought us Les Miserables, for the second time at the Fifth Avenue Theater in Seattle. Les Mis is one of our very favorites and we look forward to seeing the movie after Christmas! Jer visited daughter Lynn again for her birthday and he also had a chance to catch up with son Mike while he was there.
Son Matt's wedding to Renee in Hingham, MA was one of the high points of the month of August. The wedding was beautiful and Grandpa enjoyed being with granddaughters Maddie and Lilli. He also enjoyed a little time with daughter Lisa and Mike before flying home. There was a Carpenter Reunion in Kennebunkport, Maine a week before the wedding, but Jer couldn’t get there for it. Luckily, he was able to use Skype to connect with his cousins while they were at the reunion.
September brought some fun when we attended a Red Sox-Mariners baseball game in Seattle. We also jumped at the chance to go to Disneyland for a few days in celebration of Malakai’s 4th birthday. Our only official exercise this year was a unique outdoor event that we did with daughter Denise, Kiana and Malakai called the Color Run in Portland, OR.
In November, son Todd and Kristen, Logan, Trista and Parker came for a quick visit. This was the second time they made it over our way this year. Seeing all the cousins playing together is sooooo much fun. Wish it could happen more often!
Jer’s “Lakeland Computer Doctor” business keeps him very busy and he loves keeping up with all the newest “tech” stuff. I just love hanging out with the grandkids… so between our two passions… we are always busy! I don’t know exactly where this year went… but I do know that God was with me every step of the way! Thank you, LORD… I couldn’t have done it without you! If you would like to see a few of our year 2012 photos, you can find them at:
Know that you are loved and we are so very glad that you continue to be a part of our lives. We pray you know the Lord’s love, heart and goodness this Christmas and always...
With Love and Warm Hugs,
