Dear Family and Friends,

Ho! Ho! Ho and Hi! Please excuse us for being a little early with our greeting.

We are now on the travel trail again, thus necessitating this early holiday letter. On October 30, we left for the Ukraine to undertake a six-week consulting assignment in Kyiv. We are helping a Systems company there develop an expanded business base. We will be back home in the states for Christmas.

We've rediscovered the pleasure of being homeowners. We absolutely love our home in Bonney Lake. It has also given us the opportunity to plan and implement major landscaping improvements this year. We've finally finished and thoroughly enjoy the natural beauty of our lake setting.

We continued our volunteer work this year, by staffing three Walls, one Mastery, and one Pursuit of Excellence for Context Associated. We spent a week at Stanford University with the United Religions Initiative as we did last year. Carole also continues to volunteer her time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Pierce County.

We decided to "play" a little in the field of keeping fit and exercising (although from our weight you wouldn't know it!) We did the Bloomsday 12K race in Spokane, and the Seattle-Portland bike tour with the help of a family "sag" wagon (this is a support vehicle for cyclists).

A high point this year was Jerry's 40th class reunion held in York, Maine in August along with the annual Carpenter family reunion happening that same weekend at Jerry's sister Nan's place outside of Littleton, NH. What a weekend of travel! There were also 18 holes of golf squeezed in on a course near Littleton, NH with Jerry's uncles, Charlie and Chuck, and his cousin Sue.

Our children continue to pursue their passions. Jer's daughter, Lynn, is a Netscape executive and has just purchased a home in Santa Cruz, CA. Mike lives in San Mateo, CA, and enjoys golfing as much as he can amid working as a Sales manager for a chain of health clubs. We did enjoy a mini-vacation in May visiting with Mike

and Lynn. Lisa loves teaching in Keene, NH. She and Mike (her husband) continue to restore their old New England farmhouse. Matt remains busy in real estate. He, Renee' and Madison Rose have just bought their first home in Hingham, Mass. Madi will be four in March.

It is such a delight being close to our West Coast grandchildren, Kayla and Logan, and watching them grow. Of course, Grandma Carole loves sitting whenever she can! Denise and Eric enjoy their church activities, fitness, water sports and working at BankAmerica. Jani completed her GED this year and continues to work full time at Applebee's. Joel attends PLU and will receive his teaching degree next year. He has developed a wonderful Prayer group page on the web at The Prayer Page. Todd enjoys his home in Spokane (he still hasn't grown webfeet, he just rents them when he visits us) and continues to work hard at Metropolitan Mortgage.

We had some interesting family fun here at home this year as we hosted a "Mystery" dinner where the hosts and guests all played a part in a mystery play including costumes of the period, mid 1920's in France. Scripts provided the plot for each participant along with an accompanying audiotape. It was a kick! We also managed to spend a fun weekend with the kids in August, camping out in the San Juan's complete with tents, bikes, kayaks and enough food for a month! The marshmallows and chocolate bars taste soooo much better when setting around a campfire!

Please know you are always welcome in our home, and the guestroom is ready and waiting for company. Our home phone remains (253) 891-2910. If you have e-mail, this is a very nice way to stay in touch with us, as we will have this capability wherever we are, every day. Our e-mail address WHILE we are in the Ukraine will be Jer's Mail Box. And here at home, it remains Carole N' Jer's Mail. If you are browsing the Web, stop and see us at our Web site. It is Carp N' CC - Working and Playing. It has many links and includes our consulting business, Continental Consulting Strategies.

We wish for you a happy and prosperous 1999. May the magic and wonder of the beautiful Christmas season fill all our hearts with precious faith and memories and may each of us realize and give thanks for how truly blessed we are. We love you and are really glad you're a part of our lives.

With Warm Holiday Hugs,

Jer and Carole Carpenter

"God Bless Us Each and Every One"
